Religion as a personality disorder

Extreme religiosity as a personality disorder. From the Mayo Clinic ([www.mayoclinic.com]):
"In general, having a personality disorder means you have a rigid and unhealthy pattern of thinking and behaving no matter what the situation. This leads to significant problems and limitations in relationships, social encounters, work and school.
"In some cases, you may not realize that you have a personality disorder because your way of thinking and behaving seems natural to you, and you may blame others for the challenges you face."

Muffyns

Suzy Homemaker made pancake batter breakfast muffins and lovely daughter says - Gee mum, these are so good, why don't you work in a restaurant or something?" I love her :)

Grande Soy Chai,No Water

I spend a lot of time in my local Starbux. Yes, that's what we Seattle folks do. We sit around, drinking our fancy designer drinks (or not) pretending we are hip and cool.  Generally, I sit with the same crowd of friends, and I must interrupt myself and state that we are far from the coolest people we know!  We sit and watch the comings and goings of the regulars, being perfect ourselves we feel we have the tools to discuss who has the best shoes/dress/hairstyle of the day.  The baristas know our drinks and have them waiting without us having to order, We sit in the same chairs each day and it's very urban comfortable.  Now, I don't know about your favourite watering hole, but the fun starts in ours when we try and assign a "life" to each customer.  Oh, here comes Russian Shotputt Lady (triple tall no foam latte) closely followed by Eddie Izzard.  No, not the TRUE Eddie, but close enough for rock n roll.  If the real Eddie should feel the urge to wander in, I'll let you know.  Another interesting way to pass time is Spot the Affair.  It's amazing how many people have chosen my sleepy neighbourhood to meet.  Totally obvious to all and sundry, partly because of the separate cars they invariably arrive in, but also the almost indecent amount of touching and kissing that goes on.  Dear people, this is the NW, we don't DO public displays of affection, everything here is amazingly understated.  Goodness, the average couple here just about says please and thankyou after their obligatory weekly/birthday shag session!

Kids and School Cliques

So 3 of my kids are heading back to school in a few weeks, 2 of them will be facing the daily drama of middle school.  We've all been there - are my clothes trendy enough, will I "fit in", which "clique" will I join?  I'm also wondering the same thing - will I be with the "popular" mums, the "I volunteer for everything even though I'm a working mother" group?  No, I think I will be, once again, one of the mothers that thankfully, doesn't really fit into one group.  Our beloved, recently graduated from, elementary school had many of these cliques, from the "I'm best friends with my kids teacher and therefore get more student/teacher time than you", and the young mums who think that their kid is the most precious/important kid in the school.  I've spent many years doing the whole school thing, my oldest just turned 20, and it's no less fascinating to watch now than it was when HE was in preschool.  I'm given the evil eye at school by these young things, obviously wondering why someone as old as I am (somewhere in my mid/late 40s) is at school, little do they realise that I have 2 older kids too, fertile thing that I am :)  Would love to meet up with them in another 15 years time and see just how they fare, more than a few of them need to stop and realise they and their kids are small fish in big ponds - yes, there IS a whole world out there that doesn't really care about them!  Maybe they should be reminded of the recent speech about graduating kids NOT BEING SPECIAL.

Why I hate Westboro Church

We all have our own religious beliefs (or not) but I feel not one sane human being could agree with this messed up "church".  I live in an area where there was a horrific murder/suicide a week ago, 2 poor baby boys were murdered by their psychotic father and burned in their house.

Margie Phelps of the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church sent out a tweet saying the church will attend the boys' memorial service as a protest against the pending legalization of gay marriage in Washington state.

On what possible f***ed grounds could they possibly do this?  Whatever kind of god they look up to, it certainly isn't mine, and forgive me, but I hope they burn in hell.

Ass hat Parents

Went to a school meeting last night with himself and two of the circus clowns, not just a regular school meeting, one specifically for potential enrollment in a Choice school.  Now, all the details for the meeting were widely available, info such as BRING YOUR CHILD WITH YOU - MANDATORY, and DOORS WILL BE LOCKED AT 6.30 SO BE ON TIME.  Ten minutes or so into it, himself disappears and comes back with quiet the tale.  Apparently,  asshat parents were in the foyer verbally abusing the darling elderly secretary because they "didn't know" they were supposed to be on time or bring their child with them.  Really people?  Not only can you not read but seriously, taking it out on an older lady because of your incompetence is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself.  Maybe it was a good thing your child wasn't with you to witness your deplorable behaviour.  Btw, the school entry is minimal and we are all competing for a place there.  Do you think the school and secretary are gonna choose you now??? I sincerely hope not.

Did I Hurt Your Feelings??

Oh, so I just remembered something my not-sister told me yesterday that made me sad.  She works in a Middle School and mentioned that at her school they are not allowed to wish anyone a Happy Birthday anymore.  Happy Celebration Day is the preferred greeting, because some people may not celebrate birthdays and might be offended by hearing it.  That makes me so sad.  It's not a religious thing, just more PC-ness gone awry.  :(

Whatever Happened to all the Men?????

So today, my  fave radio station  KISW, was inviting people to call in with advice for a guy who was having some issues.  The story was, he got married and had kids and is very happy with his life, but is thinking of contacting an old girlfriend who dumped him 10 years ago.  Apparently he feels he needs to have "closure" and hasn't ever gotten over being dumped.  JFC, did he hand his balls to his wife for safekeeping when he got married?????  Closure? Really?  Is he expecting the ex girlfriend to beg forgiveness for hurting his feelings???  Unfortunately, where I live now, the home of the passive aggressive fleece monster, is full of immasculated men in touch with their feminine side to the point of oestrogen overload.  You know them, the bumfluff beard, the herbal tea drinking, baby bjorn wearing daddies who spends quality time with baby so that gravelly-voiced mum can kick seven bales of snot out of people at her martial arts class before heading to Microsoft for the day.  She spends her day telling everyone what to do then comes home and dominates daddy too.

I'm lucky to be married to "himself", English and proud of it, wouldn't be seen dead carrying one of our 4 monsters in a papoose, and thinks closure is something you do to an open door!  I don't think the other extreme, caveman with a beer in one hand and a gun in the other is any better, but jeez, the majority of the guys I see in this area need a kick up the pants.  All the rain we get here has melted away any backbone they may have had I guess.

Just an Opinion

*sigh*. Has every one lost their common sense?

I have had about all I can stand with blaming the democrats, blaming the republicans, blaming the teachers. I am tired of listening to excuses about why we can't have Christmas Parties or Halloween parties or announce the word Happy " Birthday" over a school intercom because it offends, is not fair or bothers someone.

Apparently, kids in school should have the same rights as their parents. Apparently, it is really o.k.  for adults, who supposedly have a brain, treat others with disdain and cruelty.  Apparently, it is o.k. to have an opinion, just don’t share that opinion. Apparently, if a person has more money (or a better car, or nicer house or better educated or is a Christian or a Muslim or a Buddhist) it means he/she is a better person than another.

News flash: my kids, your kids, initially, do not worry about what is politically correct.  Only the adults do.  It is a learned behavior that is deteriorating how we look at and treat each other, around the world, "It's not fair".

O.k. let’s be fair. Just remove every holiday from the calendar.  Get rid of everything that could possibly now or in the future offend or piss someone off.  Don’t practice or teach by example common sense, compromise or compassion.

I would LOVE it if Life were "fair". But in my world, on the planet I live on, Earth, life is not fair. There are too many variables in life for everyone everywhere for life to be "fair".  It is what it is. It is HOW people react to this natural unfairness that has led to the indifference and entitlement so many feel we deserve, that we are living with right now.

What used to be the Golden rule: "Treat people the way you want to be treated" has been changed to the Tarnished rule": "Treat me and mine the way I think I should be treated or I am going to sue your ass".

Entitlement. I call it the "Little Red Hen Syndrome".  Everyone wants a piece of bread, but very few want to actually help make the bread.

People make excuses, undermine others to get what they want.  Blatantly bully established systems (qualifying  systems here as education, holidays, religious beliefs, public safety and healthcare)  because people truly believe they deserve.
People deserve, feel entitled to  because people think they are better than everyone else is.  Or, they had an unfair experience in their life, or they are desperately trying to appear better than everyone else because of their own issues, whatever they may be. And, they are as legitimate as the next person’s issues but they are not an excuse.

No one dares call a spade a spade for fear of not being politically correct.  Most wouldn’t dare be caught giving money to a beggar at the freeway entrance. “They will probably use it for drugs”.  It is possible, but who are we to judge?

We have to Get Over Ourselves! There is a bigger picture here than just what you  or I want or think is fair or unfair.  In the scheme of things, your life and mine is relatively short.  What you start you may not finish.

What kind of world do you want to pass on?  (insert obligatory politically correct smiley face here so no one gets offended or pissed off).
